Upon hatching from their eggs, the infective juveniles of SCN migrate to the host roots, penetrate the vascular root tissues, and establish feeding sites (called syncytia) to siphon the plant nutrients for its growing phase. A new generation of SCN can occur every 24 days during conducive, summer weather conditions, and the SCN eggs can remain dormant in the soil for over a decade in the absence of a host soybean crop 12, 13. This nematode has been found in most of the soybean-producing areas of the United States and Canada, causing over a billion dollars in soybean yield loss annually with compromised seed quality and quantity 7, 9, 11. Amongst all pathogen-caused soybean diseases, the soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Heterodera glycines, has been ranked as the most damaging in the United States for the past two decades and yield losses caused by SCN have become a worldwide issue 8, 9, 10. Every year, significant yield losses of soybeans are caused by a myriad of insect pests and diseases caused by viral, bacterial, fungal and nematode pathogens 6, 7. The majority of soybeans produced worldwide are processed and consumed as edible oil and livestock feeds 5. Soybeans ( Glycine max) are a critically important crop to the economy of the United States, the world’s leading soybean producer 1, 2, 3, 4. Our new technology brings the benefits of automation to SCN soil diagnostics, a step towards long-term integrated pest management of this serious soybean pest. The performance of the robotic instrument is evaluated using soil samples infested with SCN from two farms at different locations and results were comparable to the conventional technique. All system functions are controlled and operated by a touchscreen interface software. We incorporated mechanisms to actuate the stage system, manipulate positions of individual sieves using the gripper, recover cysts and cyst-sized objects from soil suspended in water, and grind the cysts to release their eggs. Here we present a robotic instrument to reproduce and automate the functions of the conventional methods to extract nematode cysts from soil and subsequently extract eggs from the recovered nematode cysts. Extraction is typically conducted in commercial soil analysis laboratories and university plant diagnostic clinics and involves repeated steps of sieving, washing, collecting, grinding, and cleaning. The only definitive way to assess SCN population densities is to directly extract the SCN cysts from soil and then extract the eggs from cysts and count them. It is difficult to visually identify the presence of SCN in the field, let alone its population densities or numbers, as there are no obvious aboveground disease symptoms. Every year, soybean yields are reduced by numerous soybean diseases, particularly the soybean cyst nematode (SCN). However, each Sieve can only accept 6 right-clicks per second more than that will be ignored.Soybeans are an important crop for global food security. The Sieve can be automated by devices that simulate player right-clicks, such as the Autonomous Activator, and on multiplayer servers multiple people can work on a sieve together to accelerate it. Each probability is independent of the others (one item being dropped won't affect the probability of other items being dropped).

The Sievable Materials table below lists the materials which can be used in a Sieve, their possible products, their probabilities of being dropped, and enabling mods (if none of the mods are loaded then the item will not drop). On the 14th click, the sieved block will vanish, and one or more items may pop out from the top of the Sieve.

With each click, less of the block will render in the Sieve. Right-clicking the Sieve 14 more times will process the block. Holding a block of sievable material and right-clicking the Sieve will place the block in the Sieve.
